TV Alert: Thanksgiving morning on MSNBC
When it's Thanksgiving, we think of turkeys, right? Which might explain why MSNBC has asked me to come on between 8:30 and 9 am CST Thanksgiving Day to talk about holiday movies -- like, among other others, Creed. Better get that DVR warmed up now.

Blasts from the past: Me on MSNBC
Back when I had a place of honor in some producer's Rolodex at MSNBC, I was periodically called upon to offer Oscar predictions, mini-movie reviews, respectful obituaries and other sage commentary. (I think I was the guy they called when Roger Ebert's line was busy, or when they couldn't get anyone else on a holiday weekend.) I had a lot more hair back then -- and relatively little of it had yet turned gray. (Of course, it helped that I occasionally touched up the beard with Just for Men hair coloring.) In the above clip, I chat with anchor Gregg Jarrett (now a Fox News Channel employee) about the great George C. Scott the morning after the reluctant Oscar winner's death in 1999.
And in this clip, I chat talk with the lovely and talented Ashleigh Banfield about three movies -- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Thirteen Days and O Brother, Where Art Thou? -- that had Oscar-qualifying runs in New York and L.A. in late 2000, but didn't open until January 2001 in most markets. (You'd never guess that I bought that spiffy-cool faux leather jacket off the rack at a Target store in Seattle, would you?)
And even though I already referenced this one in an earlier blog post, here I am talking with the man himself, Keith Olbermann, about The Day After Tomorrow in 2004. (More beard, and a lot more gray in this one. Now you know why I went back to the goatee.) Which reminds me: I guess I need to get myself planted in some Rolodex over at Current TV, don't I?

Still smokin'
Here is a link to a recent KHOU-TV story about the debate over rating movies for their nicotine content. Naturally, I'm linking it because it includes an interview with moi. Note the strategic placement of my book over my shoulder....
And speaking of shameless plugs for myself, here's a link to one of my recent appearances as a talking head for MSNBC.

More me on TV? Smokin'!
Well, I must have done something -- or said something -- right. The folks at MSNBC want me to come back for two interview segments tomorrow (Sunday). I'll be chatting again with the lovely and talented Alex Witt about the ruckus over rating movies for their nicotine content during the half-hour blocks starting at 8:30 and 10 am CDT. (That's 9:30 and 11 am EDT.) Please tune in, and tell all of your friends to tune in, so the network will get an enormous ratings spike and ask me to come back. I need all the opportunities I can get to promote my book and boost sales. Remember: I have a 20-year-old son, and I'm paying for his auto insurance.

More ruthless self-promotion: Me on TV
Start cranking up those VCRs: I'll be on MSNBC -- the world's greatest all-news TV network -- at 10 and 11:20 am EDT (9 and 10:20 am CDT) Saturday, and 9:30 am EDT (8:30 am CDT) Sunday, to talk about the MPAA's recent decision to include cigarette smoking among the unpleasant activities that can affect a movie's rating. I'll also try to steer the conversation toward a cheap plug for my book, even though the MSNBC hosts usually are too clever to let me get away with that sort of thing. (Hey, it's like my son says: You dribble and you shoot, and you hope you score.)

The faces and the names
In the wake of terrible events such as those that unfolded Monday at Virginia Tech, we far too often learn more about the killer than his victims. Thank you, MSNBC, for attempting to remedy the balance by introducing some of the folks who should be the real "stars" of the inevitable TV movies.

Four more years! Four more years!
Keith Olbermann -- the only man in TV today who's a natural heir to Edward R. Murrow and Ernie Kovacs -- will have a steady gig at MSNBC (and some new duties at NBC) through 2011. Let joy reign supreme. Let there be dancing in the streets, drinking in the saloons and necking in the parks.Friday, November 24, 2006
Radio alert
After warming up as a talking head on MSNBC, I'm ready for the big time: On Saturday, I'll be a guest on the popular New Orleans radio program Movie Talk at around 12:15 p.m. Host Dave DuBos wants to talk about Deja Vu, the time-tripping thriller that was filmed on location in The Big Easy -- my home town! -- and you can hear us streamed live from WGSO-AM by clicking here. We'll likely also discuss the recent loss of Robert Altman and Philippe Noiret. And, again, I wouldn't be surprised if a certain subversive movie about peguins figures into the conversation.

TV Alert!
Set your alarm or your VCR! I'll be chatting with the lovely and talented Alex Witt about holiday movies on MSNBC tomorrow morning -- yes, Thanksgiving Day! -- during the half-hour blocks starting at 8:30 and 10:30 CST. (That's 9:30 and 11:30 EST.) Don't be surprised if a certain subversive movie about penguins enters into the conversation.
