Blah b.o.

Nikki Finke has the early word on weekend box-office estimates. Looks like, once again, a teen-skewing horror movie that wasn't screened for critics will claim the No. 1 spot.

Question: Can someone explain the reasoning behind showing a film like Hollywoodland at the Venice Film Festival? It is already showing here in the U.S., so what is the advantage of having it at a festival so close to its opening? There's not much time to generate a buzz (at least not here).

Probaby for the same reason some U.S.-made movies open at the Cannes Film Festival after they've opened here: To stimulate buzz in overseas markets.
